I love me some Jil Sander. Her men's spring/summer 2011 line over at Oki Ni are pieces to pick up before the rest sells out.

Check out the simplicity in these motion shorts. The cleanliness and the matching yellow binding are perfect. My only beef about this image is the hokey white leather loafers. They are too bulky! I wish he was wearing some shoes like the alife's pictured below, found via asos.

Sander's "Rodrigo" poplin formal trouser: The skinny zip welt above the welt pocket is the perfect detail as well as this shade of blue, which looks good on every guy.

Well hellllllllllllloooooooooo MENFOLK! A lot has happened since my last post in Nov! I MARRIED a man! :-[) What a fun time it has been so far. I am ready to get back to blogging about all my favorite "man" things, especially new things I have come across in the last 6 months. But first, I want to introduce you all to one of my very favorite man things: Free & Easy - A Japanese magazine about men's fashion, lifestyles, occupations etc.

I bought this issue last summer for Jesse [my husband] when I went back to New York for a freelance Job. I was buying my usual fashion mags at Kinokuniya and happily came across this magazine!

This coming Saturday I will be attending the Bountiful Vintage Car Show with Jesse and his family. I am really looking forward to this since it will be my first vintage car show and it is so fun to hear Jesse and his brothers/ and dad talk about cars and motorcycles. Check out these cool cars? Don't you just want them all??!!!

These old vintage shift knobs are sweet! Just to have them as a collection would be neat.

Lastly, I am in love with this writer David Coggin's office desk and all is office artifacts.

Just saw this photo of Pharrell Williams HERE at "omg! what were they thinking". I guess I would be put in the idiot category because personally I LOVE his outfit! If I passed a dude on the street wearing this exact look I would for sure do a double take, but in a good way! This has been and will always be one of my FAVORITE looks for men!!! Shorts over leggings! LOVE IT! My brothers are pretty hard core outdoor enthusiasts...and often where some type of outdoor short over their thermal leggings...I have always loved seeing that...& then a couple years back I remember shopping in Park Slope [in Brooklyn] and seeing a HANDSOME Scandinavian looking fellow wearing some camel colored baggy cotton shorts over heather gray cashmere leggings with some suede desert boots! The Rev F. P. Brown, curate of St Nicolas's Church, Chiswick, London, is a staunch defender of the motorcycle and uses a 350cc bike to travel round his parish. He is a familiar sight in the area, dressed in blue jeans, boots and leather jacket, and a flowing cassock. He enjoys this method of transport which is considerably cheaper than running a car and it is "great fun". His approach to the parishioners - on a motor cycle - seems to bring him into much closer contact with their daily lives, particularly the teenagers who are much readier to accept him. Through his motor cycling activities he has become a welcomed visitor to an Ealing cafe which is the haunt of local "ton-up" boys known as the leather jackets. He enjoys sharing a snack with the boys and can often be seen dancing - including the "twist" - with their girlfriends. The main topic of conversation - February 1963

This Cossack shown here with a charming Ciocasisan beauty perched on his saddle, was no doubt a suitor for the hand of the young lady who was looked with disfavor by the girl's parents. So he being willing, and she thinking she would be just as safe with him, as in her father's home, consented to elopement.

Exciting news on the homefront..... X96 an alternative radio station out here in Salt Lake City, put on a contest for the band Muse which will be playing here Monday night at the E Center. Anyways, basically the contest is to design a poster for the band & then the winner receives 2 tickets to the concert and then a backstage pass [?] to get their poster autographed. Autographed, yes...but backstage passes....I dunno.... anyhoo...my dreams of designing posters/cd covers for musicians are slowly coming true. However, I had no idea who Muse was till Sunday. My friend Jon told me about this contest and then forwarded me the info Monday evening. The deadline was Wednesday. I decided to forgo doing my taxes Tuesday night to do this...took me 6 hrs. Well worth it! ha! ;[) but I still gotta do my taxes... ;/

Ray Lamontagne has quickly and easily become one of my very favorite musicians! His lyrics alone win me over. They are mostly in praise of women and how wonderful we are! Since I started listening to him [about a couple months ago]I have promised myself to listen to at least one song of his a day. He makes me feel good. His music builds my self esteem! Just listen to this song titled "You are the best thing" <- HECK YEAH!!
This is a song to wake up to every morning! Actually since I started running in the morning...I listen to this song every time! And while listening to it, I find myself wearing THEE BIGGEST SMILE!!! :)

Met this guy Scott who is the designer/owner behind URBAN SPECTACLES about 6 years ago [?] when Brooklyn had the Renegade Craft Fair for the first time. SUUUUPER humble and very friendly guy!

His Bio:

From an early age my parents taught me creation is a functional daily necessity. My father’s work ethic set the standard as he took on multiple jobs to eke out a life in Chicago while my mother cooked three meals a day from scratch and sewed our clothes instead of buying them (ah, those red pants).

I came of age in the nineties, the era of plastic throw-aways. So it’s no wonder that when I felt the weight in my hands of an object from some bygone era I saw the pride the creator put into making it as unique and special.

My first pair of wood spectacles was a project of necessity. In 2004, while pretending to break dance, my father’s 1960’s frames flew off my face and broke beyond repair. Furious and determined, I took a hacksaw and my mother’s old dremel tool to a solid piece of wood and the frames that came out of that unfortunate accident have lead to my life’s work.

Six years later my journey to create the most beautiful, unique, well-made and custom spectacles available is well under way. When on your face or in your hand, you will recognize the pride of a self taught craftsman. My eyewear comes from a time forgotten, when quality and design met at an apex – in a word, timeless.

GIPSY KINGS are truly one of my FAVORITE bands!!!! They remind me sooooo much of when I first moved to New York City, Manhattan! I listened to them 24/7 and danced sooooo much to them in the high rise apartment I was living in overlooking Central Park [I was a live-in nanny] We were on the 36th floor with floor to ceiling windows that wrapped around half 1/2 of the apartment. TOOO DREAMY!!!! These guys' music puts you in THEE BEST MOOD EVER!!!!

Just finished reading this hilarious bio on Sufjan Steven's MYSPACE page. I think he may perhaps be the male version of me!!! :[) And may I add that he and I went to the same school! New School University! Yay! Neat Neat!!!

Sufjan Stevens was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in the chilly upper reaches of the Lower Peninsula. A self-taught musician, the young Sufjan pounded out elaborate Mozartian sonatas on a toy Casio, and by college became proficient on the oboe, recorder, banjo, guitar, vibraphone, bass, drums, piano, and other instruments too numerous to mention. Somewhere along the line he also started to sing, though at the time his friends didn't encourage it. He bought a 4-track tape cassette recorder and painstakingly composed 90-minute concept albums for The Nine Planets, The 12 Apostles, and The Four Humors. He read William Blake, William Wordsworth, and William Faulkner. At that time, in college, the world loomed large and daunting, and Sufjan's music came to sound like a medieval woodwind ensemble waving swords and torches at the twelve-headed dragon of death. During his last semester in college, Sufjan pruned, picked, and assembled a selection of these songs to produce the inaugural release "A Sun Came" on Asthmatic Kitty Records, a home label Sufjan initiated with his step-dad Lowell. A thousand copies were manufactured and shipped to a dark, dank closet somewhere in the vacuous black hole of the universe, where they shifted and snored in their sleep for several years to come.

Sufjan then moved to New York City and lived bohemian style, with three other college graduates, in the unfashionable financial district, commuting by bike to The New School for Social Research, where he was enrolled in the masters program for writers. There he met Jhumpa Lahiri, harassed Philip Gourevitch on the telephone, and tried unsuccessfully to complete an epic collection of stories and sketches about backwoods Midwestern kinsmen—Christian Fundamentalists, Amway salesmen, crystal healers— all set in a small rural town in Michigan. Hmmmm. No one seemed very interested. Sufjan went back to the 4-track, tired of "words, words, words," and set out to complete his most ambitious project to date: a collection of programmatic, symphonic songs for the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. There were no lyrics, but more than a few cymbal swells, flourishes on the oboe, and ambient organ drones, all accompanied by computer-generated techno beats, and digital noise. The result was enterprising, but not quite flattering. He sent a few copies to press, which fell on confused ears. "…A hyper-modified Atari battling a souped-up Colecovision in a chess match/battle royal," one writer noted. Feeling inspired, Sufjan dropped off a copy at New York's favored record store, Other Music, only to find it in the used section, reduced price, two weeks later. Sufjan took this as a compliment. His label did not. Write songs, his step-dad insisted. Write something with words and melodies.

Sufjan went back to the books, mainly his own unwritten one. Taking bits and scraps of unfinished stories (character sketches, plot lines, penciled diagrams) Sufjan began to arrange his misshapen fiction into the bold mechanics of song, making friends with line breaks, meter, and rhyme scheme. These things led to melody, odd time signature, and a litany of jingle jangles on the drum kit, which had been taken out of storage once and for all. Here and there, on weekend trips, in quiet gasps of free time, Sufjan carried around his 8-track, recording songs in people's homes, in cinderblock basements, in barn houses and rehearsal rooms. The vibraphone in Massachusetts, the electric organ in New Jersey, his sister's husband's grand piano, upstate Michigan. Word by word, note by note, everything came together like one great cosmic shuffle, the Big Bang. The result was a lushly orchestrated road trip through the backwoods of The Great Lake State, from motor-city to the winter beaches of Lake Superior. Now this is more like it! his step-dad said. This sounds pretty good! They decided to release it to the public, to act like a real record label. They found a distributor, a publicist, a booking agent, a make-up artist, a mime. Things were looking good. People lent an eager ear. The critics lowered their knives and their critical brow. Other Music put it in New Releases, top shelf! Europeans weren't offended! Sufjan began to feel gallant and bold and confident about this great place called Planet Earth. This is just the beginning! he proclaimed over loudspeakers. This is just the tip of the iceberg! Galvanized by tourist brochures, road atlas maps, and the spirit of Walt Whitman, Sufjan began to intimate at other songs for other states, the American Dream, the national anthem, the continental rigmarole, the Delaware shuffle, Florida flamenco, California swing, all dramatized in song, the great epic symphony, in 50 movements, in 50 years! Lord help us!

Once the clang and clamor of patriotism subsided, Sufjan's musical inquiry fell fast on the Land of Lincoln, stirred, perhaps, by sentimental recollections of his rebellious young adulthood on Clark Street in Chicago, Wrigleyville, the beachfront parks, the homeless kids with their pets, the abandoned school house, where he slept on a desk. During the winter of 2004, Sufjan spent four months in isolation, reading books and biographies, memorizing the unfashionable poems of Carl Sandburg, laughing and shuddering through Saul Bellow's novels. He uncovered police blogs and books on tape. He solicited correspondence from old friends, Illinoisans once lost or estranged; he studied travel guides; he quizzed chat rooms; he made stuff up. All research, he decided, begins with your imagination and with your intuition, relying heavily on the convictions of the heart. During those long winter hand-clapping, piano-playing, drum-rolling months, Sufjan's heart began to expand, leaving its fist-shaped mark on a series of songs that not so much pay homage to the Prairie State, but rack and rend its characters through potato farms, steel factories, street fairs, marching parades, convoluted rivers, and centuries past and present. The result was something bold, flashy, and ripe with advertisement, like the Goodyear blimp, but not without Sufjan's tender rendering of the imagination. When all was said and done, Sufjan felt irrevocable changes taking place within his body, like a second puberty. His shoulders broadened, his mind quickened, his heart began to beat with quiet, patient thumps in a rhythm as fluid and faithful as the Chicago River.

And so on and so forth.

Sufjan's other interests include graphic design, painting, running, knitting, crocheting, weaving, quilting, cleaning, photography, haircutting, and dry wall installation. He collects stamps and wheat pennies. He cooks legendary omelets and can whip up a sushi feast at the drop of a sake glass. In high school he played second string guard on a district champion basketball team and created his own language, now spoken by only two other people. His brother Marzuki is a nationally recognized marathon runner, elite status. His sister Djohariah has the most complicated, most whimsical, most monumental laugh in all of mankind.

I have a good amount of married friends who are super creative and they are happy with supporting each other in their creative endeavors with or without kids , with or without creative careers ...etc. They are all lucky because they really do have it all, not one or the other!

Luckily though winter is not finished and there is still plenty of time to get on top of that, especially since I have never been before! I was telling my friend the other day about how I should probably get my licence, it expired in 2005! Remember, I just moved from NYC... anyways, and then I thought, if by some freak chance I do end up staying here in SLC/West Coast...well then I should probably get a car too! My friend thought this was funny and said he cannot picture me driving a car. ahaha lol It actually is hard to believe, considering that I have never owned a car and I am 28 years old! WEIRD?! I dunno...anyways, my mind has actually been on cars lately and what kind I would drive... here are some of my favorites!

Over 7 years ago, when Frontier House came out, my brother and I became OBSESSED with this reality tv series that takes 3 families back in time to the 1850's and places them in Montana, living life on the frontier, roughing it without any modern day necessities. This show will seriously be one of your all time favorites!!! I recently just got it on Netflix and finished watching it the other day. Confession: I cried sooo much through this show. The Brooks men [pictured below] are amazing examples of what real men are supposed to be like! I fell in love with Senior Brooks and his son Nate and also Nate's brother who came to the homestead for a day to help with the finishing of Nate and kristin's cabin. I know I was supposed to watch this show, mainly because I think my standards for the kind of guy I am normally interested in has slipped, a lot, the Brooks have raised that bar back for me. Gentlemen, take note! These two men are who you want to be like!!!

A couple months ago I decided that I would build a faux mantel above me and my sisters fireplace in our apt. Finally finished it last night! I constructed it out of cardboard and then paper-mache'd it..painted a couple coats of brown paint and then some wood grain... I also decided to pay homage to one of my favorite authors Roald Dahl and his children's book "Fantastic Mr. Fox" with making my own Fantastic Mr. Fox head to go above the mantel piece, especially since the movie is coming out Nov. 11th!! CAN'T WAIT! p.s. the simple wreath was made with just tying twigs together with string and then I glue-gunned some found leaves all over it....

Greg gave me this beautiful little 2.75"x3.25" ceramic drawing he did back in July. It was in impromptu birthday present! :)

Finished reading Rascal last night. This is officially one of my favorite books now, especially since it is a true story! Growing up, my mom had read it to me and my siblings a couple times and I remember always liking it, but there is something different when reading a book all on your own and to yourself.

I related wholeheartedly to this book because I once owned a dog that acted soooo similar to Rascal! When I was married, my ex husband and I [sounds so weird to say that considering I don't feel old enough to have had an ex husband....] got a little Yorkshire Terrier, due to my begging and pleading non stop.....Hiro [my ex] was NOT fond of small dogs and I tried sooo hard to convince him that they are great dogs [depending on the owners of course] anyways, I finally convinced him to go to a pet store with me to look at dogs [mind you this was 6 years ago and before I knew how horrible pet shops are.. ] we were given a bunch of dogs to play with and see which one we liked best..all of them were either scared, shaky, or shy and really REALLY tiny...but the last dog we got was Sebastian..he was a little bigger and obviously independent. He wanted nothing to do with us, he had better things to do like sniff the perimeter of the room we were in, inspect our clothes, and stand on his back legs to get the attention of the passerbys. Instantly I knew I wanted him, plus Hiro was sold on this little fella! We gave him the name Sebastian and took him home...my instincts about his personality proved true but even as independent as he tried so hard to be, he was the most loyal and faithful companion to me...Sadly, when I decided to get a divorce...I had to give Sebastian and Stella away to a friend [we got another yorkie a year later] due to being in school full time and working. I obviously could go on forever about the adventures I had with Sebastian, but I would bore you all to death, especially those who have never had the experience of really bonding with an animal. With that said, I highly recommend reading Rascal, I guarantee you will want a raccoon after reading this book, or at least a dog!

Here is Sebastian, this picture below was taken by a photographer in Central Park that was so taken by this little dog's personality that he had to get some pictures of him... side note, Sebastian was, I'm sure still is a HAM and LOOOVES the camera!

oddly enough, I took a fly-fishing class in the 6th grade...not mandatory, I signed up for it all on my own... that is kinda funny when you think about it...I was pretty much a dad's girl growing up and wanted to impress him I guess...my dad fly fished a lot when I was younger [sadly he doesn't do it any more] but my older brother Paul whom went with him almost every time was totally influenced and is now a huge fly fisherman living in Jackson Hole Wyoming...going fishing every.single.minute. he gets!!! Have had a desire to learn it all over again due to my reading "Rascal"... however, I think for now I will probably just end up painting flies and trout. :)
